Since the 90's emerged in the visual arts interest increasingly committed to social, political and economic reality.
cultural critic Hal Foster envisioned this trend in his famous essay "The artist as ethnographer" comprehensive text that will form the basis of these seminars.

This course includes seminars, in which Foster will study the text in depth, and display and analyze visual and film works of artists exploring aspects of reality, current or historical, from of conceptual and formal perspectives. Examples include artists like Gillian Wearing (England, 1963), investigating the relationship between individual subjectivity and social platform, Jeremy Deller (England, 1966), author of the famous work "The Battle of Orgreave" (2001), recreation of the battle that occurred during the British miners' strike in 1984, Sophie Calle (France, 1953) that uses devices detective, a forensic psychologist or aesthetic development of their encounter with the other, Douglas Gordon (Scotland , 1966) is best known for 24 Hour Psycho, a work which expands to a period of 24 hours the movie Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock and more recently by Zidane, feature-length films in which only the French soccer player during a game League Real Madrid against Villarreal CF in 2005, Cao Guimarães (Brazil, 1965) accompanies isolated hermits and other creatures of the urban centers creating portraits on film which blends his own involvement with the subject filmed and all the surrounding environment.
The fourth section is devoted to analytical clinical study where existing projects and other development initiatives, and discuss conclusions of the seminars at the global and local context Montevideo / Uruguay and elsewhere.
